Hundreds of animals were lost during the volcanic eruption in La Palma, which started in September 2021 and finished on Christmas Day, some were able to be rescued and reunited with their owners, others were placed in shelters, but many were forced to survive as best they could until they were located and taken to safety.
A cat owner has gone viral on TikTok (user name: grgjacr) after posting an emotional video about her cat, who she has found a year and two months since she went missing.
Gabriela's cat fled from her house during the eruption, and they were later evacuated before it became engulfed by lava, meaning they had no idea where she was.
However, 14 months later, she has confirmed that she has miraculously found her at her old house, the one she lived in, before the home that was destroyed.
In response to one of the comments on the post, Gabriela says: "we lost our house to the volcano, and we lost our cat to the volcano. She fled during the eruption but turns out not anywhere, but to the first house, we had, where she was born. We're still freaking out!"
“I have never given up looking for her in the area where we lived and in some of her favourite places until yesterday I returned to the house where she first lived; I called her and she came”.
