British tourist rescued after failing and getting head stuck in metal railing

A 70-year-old British man sustained moderate injuries in a freak accident at an apartment complex in Playa de las Americas, in the south of Tenerife yesterday, after the man, accompanied by his wife, stumbled on the stairs of a residential and commercial building situated on Avda Arquitecto Gómez Cuesta and trapped his head between a railing post and a step.

Seeing the precarious situation, onlookers alerted the emergency services as they were unable to free the injured man themselves. CECOES received the urgent request and dispatched the fire brigade, an ambulance, and Local Police to the location given on the road where Starco is.

To free him, firefighters used a specialised tool, avoiding the use of a cutting wheel to prevent sparks and further injury.

After cutting the post of the railing and removing its lower half, they successfully managed to free the British tourist who had lost a significant amount of blood during the ordeal.

After stabilising him, he was taken by ambulance to the nearest hospital in the area for further treatment.
