Fuerteventura is set to receive its first-ever direct flights from London Heathrow, with British Airways announcing a new twice-weekly service from 13th December 2026.

The new route will operate every Thursday and Sunday until 11th April 2027, linking the island directly with one of Europe's busiest international airports and British Airways' main hub at Heathrow Terminal 5.

The service will replace the airline's existing flights between London Gatwick and Fuerteventura, making Heathrow the only London airport served directly by British Airways for the island, improving travel options for visitors to the island.

The UK remains Fuerteventura's biggest tourism market. According to figures from AENA, compiled by the Tourism Board, the island welcomed 418,546 passengers from the UK during the first six months of 2026, an increase of 1.43% compared with the same period last year.

Marlene Figueroa, Fuerteventura's Councillor for Tourism and Vice-President of the Island Tourism Board, described the new Heathrow route as "a major step forward" for the island.

She said the change was about far more than switching airports, adding that Heathrow's position as one of Europe's main aviation hubs would make Fuerteventura more accessible to travellers from around the world connecting through London.

The new route is also expected to strengthen Fuerteventura's position as a leading holiday destination for the European market while further improving the island's international air connectivity.
