The body of a woman, approximately 50 years old, was discovered floating about 20 metres from the shore at Bocabarranco Beach in Telde, Gran Canaria, yesterday afternoon (Tuesday). The discovery was reported by members of the public at the beach, according to the Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES).
Emergency services rushed to the scene, but despite their efforts, they were unable to revive the woman, who displayed symptoms consistent with drowning.
The emergency call was received by the 1-1-2 call centre shortly after 5:00pm reporting that a body had been spotted floating near the coast in the Bocabarranco area.
Lifeguards from the beach's rescue service retrieved the body from the water and started with CPR, but despite their efforts medical personnel from the Primary Care Special Emergency Vehicle (SEU) could only confirm the woman's death consistent with signs of drowning.
The Guardia Civil, along with Telde's Local Police, the National Police, Maritime Rescue, and the city's beach rescue service, were involved in the emergency response. The case is now in the hands of law enforcement authorities, who have begun the necessary investigations into the incident.
