The underwater team of the Guardia Civil has located the body of a missing fisherman off the southern coast of Tenerife. The discovery was made near Las Eras, in the municipality of Fasnia.
Specialist emergency teams had been conducting an intensive search of the area for over 24 hours after the fisherman was reported missing on Monday.
The recovery operation was led by the Special Group for Underwater Activities (GEAS) of the Guardia Civil, who retrieved the body from the water.
While formal identification of the body has not yet been confirmed, authorities believe it to be the missing man who fell into the sea on Monday based on the evidence collected during the search, as the fisherman was last seen in the same coastal area where the body was recovered.
The incident has prompted a sombre reminder of the dangers associated with being too close to the rugged coastlines of the Canary Islands, particularly when there are active weather warnings in place for dangerous conditions.
