Body of missing holidaymaker found off coast of Fuerteventura
The body of a 25-year-old holidaymaker has been recovered after a major search operation off the coast of Fuerteventura.
Emergency services found the young tourist near Playa de Ugán, in the southwest of the island, close to the area where he had disappeared earlier today.
According to reports, the man had accessed a small cove during low tide but was unable to return to land after sea conditions changed and the tide came in. It is believed he drowned in the rough waters in the area.
A large-scale search operation was launched this morning, involving Maritime Rescue, the Guardia Civil, the Canary Islands Government’s emergency rescue helicopter, and ground emergency teams.
Despite the extensive rescue effort, crews were unable to save the man’s life.
The nationality of the tourist has not yet been officially confirmed.
