Authorities in Tenerife have located a body that is believed to be the foreign paraglider who has not been seen since landing in the sea on Wednesday in Puerto de la Cruz. The discovery could bring closure to a difficult and dangerous search operation that has been ongoing for several days.

According to the emergency services, the incident happened near the esplanade of the harbour, a popular area frequently visited by tourists for its coastal views. Several people witnessed the paraglider crashing into the water, which allowed teams to concentrate their search in a specific area.

However, severe sea conditions made the search extremely challenging. Waves of more than five metres prevented divers and rescue boats from operating safely for long periods, forcing them to stop looking on several occasions. Despite this, search teams continued to monitor the area from land, sea, and air whenever conditions allowed.

Yesterday, rescuers recovered the paraglider’s canopy from the water, raising hopes of locating the missing pilot. Today, a body matching the description of the man was found nearby. Authorities have not yet confirmed the identity, but all indications point to it being the missing flyer.

Local authorities have taken the opportunity to remind visitors that weather conditions can change quickly along the island’s coast, particularly during winter swells. Anyone taking part in outdoor activities, including paragliding, hiking, and water sports, are advised to follow guidance from licensed operators and monitor official weather alerts.

More information will be released once the identification is formally confirmed.
