A body discovered in a wasteland area of Jinámar in Gran Canaria has been identified as a 48-year-old man who is believed to have taken his own life in 2024, according to preliminary autopsy results.
The remains were found on 29th April near the Pepe Chiringo establishment in Jinámar and were reportedly in an advanced state of decomposition. Investigators say the man, who was born in 1978, is believed to have died in the same area where the body was later discovered.
Police have confirmed that the man was not listed in Spain’s missing persons database. Officers from the National Police homicide unit are still waiting for final DNA test results carried out with relatives to officially confirm his identity.
Investigators are also trying to establish the exact circumstances surrounding how the body came to be buried in the area. However, police say there is currently no evidence suggesting the involvement of any third party.
The discovery caused concern locally after the remains were found in an open area close to businesses and residential zones in Jinámar, on the outskirts of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
