The body of a man has been discovered following a fire in a makeshift shack in Maspalomas, prompting a police investigation into the cause and circumstances of his death.
Firefighters were called to the area on Saturday afternoon after reports of a fire in a small shack in San Fernando de Maspalomas, beneath the GC-1 near the exit towards the town centre. After extinguishing the fire, crews found the man’s body inside.
The National Police are now working to identify the victim and determine how the fire started. Early indications suggest the man may have been homeless and living in the shack.
Seven firefighters and two vehicles were sent to tackle the blaze, which was reported at around 5:30pm. Once the fire was under control, officers were alerted and began their investigation, which is ongoing.
