Another death from drowning in the south of Tenerife

CECOES (the Emergency Services Coordination Centre) have reported another death by drowning off a beach in Granadilla de Abona in the south of Tenerife.

The incident occurred at 6:00pm on Tuesday afternoon at Playa Montaña Pelada, a secluded cove at the far end of El Medano, when they received an alert from the Guardia Civil informing them that they were carrying out CPR on a man who had been pulled from the water showing signs of drowning.

Upon arrival at the beach, medical personnel could only confirm the man’s death, and Firefighters recovered the body from the rocky area where it was located and took it to a more accessible place.

The Guardia Civil guarded the corpse until the arrival of the judicial authority and instructed proceedings for official identification of the man and an autopsy to confirm the cause of death.

The emergency services are warning people of swimming in dangerous areas where the current and swell is stronger, rather than in marked areas on more public beaches that have lifeguards present.
