Air Nostrum unveils new direct flights from the Canary Islands to León

There’s exciting news for travellers and history enthusiasts as Air Nostrum, the regional airline franchise of Iberia, is expanding its flight schedule this summer to include a new direct route between the Canary Islands and the historic Roman city of León in the northwest of Spain.

Starting on July 19th, weekly flights will connect Tenerife and Gran Canaria with León, until September 1st. These new routes are among eight new destinations serviced by Air Nostrum from León's La Virgen del Camino airport, which also includes Barcelona, Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza, Málaga, and starting January 2025, Porto.

In a press conference held yesterday (Monday), the León Provincial Council and Air Nostrum unveiled the airline's program. Gerardo Álvarez, President of the Provincial Council, and Octavio González, Deputy of Tourism and head of the Provincial Airport Consortium, highlighted the significance of this announcement. They reminisced about the airport's 25-year history, noting its growth from a single flight from Barcelona with 27 passengers to nearly 1.5 million passengers to date.

“From its humble beginnings, our airport has evolved into an essential travel hub,” said Álvarez. “We’re thrilled to enhance connectivity and offer more options for travellers with these new routes.”

Air Nostrum will offer a total of 85,200 seats for flights between León and the eight destinations. This expansion is set to boost tourism and provide more opportunities for cultural exchange, benefiting both locals and visitors.

So, pack your bags and get ready to explore the rich history and charm of León this summer, now just a direct flight away from the sunny shores of Tenerife and Gran Canaria.
