A dense column of thick black smoke rose over Los Cristianos yesterday, Monday, alarming both tourists and locals as a shack went up in flames.

Fortunately, the swift intervention of emergency services prevented any injuries, though significant material damage was reported.

The incident took place yesterday morning, with the thick plume of smoke visible from various points in the south of Tenerife, causing concern among residents and visitors alike.

The Local Police of Arona were the first to arrive at the scene, confirming that the fire had completely destroyed one of the many makeshift dwellings in the area near the coast at the far end of Los Cristianos.

However, despite the dramatic sight, the authorities have assured that there were no reported casualties.

The exact cause of the fire remains unknown, though one of the people living in the shacks nearby speculated that some people, upon deciding to leave, might have intentionally set fire to their shelters.

In addition to the Local Police, the National Police, ambulances from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), and firefighters attended the scene, working swiftly to extinguish the fire and secure the area.

An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the blaze.
