A man had to be rescued from the sea in the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife on Friday evening, after he jumped into the water trying to get onto a ferry that was leaving the dock for Gran Canaria because he was late and didn't want to miss the boat and get home for the weekend.
As you can in the image and video, which were taken by witnesses of the bizarre incident, the man is clinging to a life-saving float in the water, as he didn’t make it to the ferry.
The gangways that allow passenger access to the ship had already been removed and it was leaving the pier for Agaete, when the man came running trying to chase it, shouting for it to stop, before he jumped into the sea with the intention of getting on it to go to Gran Canaria.
However, having failed, National Police patrol boat had to intervene and rescue the man and help him get out of the sea, not only missing the ferry, but in theory getting a fine 0for wasting emergency services time.
