Partly cloudy skies and steady temperatures are forecast across the Canary Islands today, Sunday, with more persistent cloud expected in the north and east of the more mountainous islands, which are Tenerife and Gran Canaria.

According to the state weather agency, AEMET, most areas will see largely clear conditions, with some cloud developing inland during the middle of the day.

Temperatures will remain broadly unchanged, while winds will be light to moderate from the northwest, with sea breezes developing in coastal areas.

Sea conditions

At sea, northwest winds of force 3 to 4 are expected, strengthening locally to force 5 and veering north or northwest. Slight to moderate seas are forecast, with a northwesterly swell of 2 to 3 metres.

Overall, it will be a mixed but generally pleasant Sunday in the Canary Islands — brighter in the east, cloudier in the north of the larger islands, and with temperatures remaining comfortable for residents and visitors alike.

Tenerife
Tenerife will see more unsettled conditions, particularly in the north and east.

Cloud will dominate for much of the day, with a chance of occasional light rain. Conditions are expected to improve towards the evening. Higher elevations, including the peaks, should remain largely clear.

Temperatures will remain steady overall, though northern and western areas may feel slightly cooler. Winds will be light and variable at lower levels, with sea breezes developing. Strong southwesterly winds are forecast across the central peaks, with the possibility of occasional very strong gusts.
General temperature range: High of 24°C and a low of 18°C.

Gran Canaria
In Gran Canaria, skies will start partly cloudy before becoming more overcast during the middle of the day and into the afternoon.

There is a chance of light, scattered showers, particularly in inland areas of the northeast. Any rain is expected to be brief and localised.

Temperatures will remain generally stable, although inland areas could see slightly cooler minimums. Winds will be light from the north, with sea breezes taking over in coastal zones.
General temperature range: High of 23°C and a low of 18°C.

Lanzarote
In Lanzarote, expect partly cloudy skies with intervals of high cloud across much of the island.

There may be some low cloud early in the morning, especially in coastal areas, with cloud developing again in the east during the afternoon. Despite this, it should remain largely dry throughout the day.

Temperatures will see little change overall, although maximums may dip slightly on eastern slopes. Light northerly winds will dominate, with sea breezes developing later.
General temperature range: High of 23°C and a low of 16°C.

Fuerteventura
Fuerteventura will see very similar conditions to Lanzarote, with a mix of sun and cloud throughout the day.

Low cloud may appear early on, with increasing cloud cover in eastern areas during the afternoon. Rain is not expected.

Temperatures will remain steady, aside from a slight drop in maximums in eastern parts. Light northerly winds and sea breezes will keep conditions comfortable.
General temperature range: High of 23°C and a low of 16°C.
