67-year-old woman drowns at Playa del Ingles beach
A 67-year-old woman tragically drowned on Thursday at Playa del Inglés, located in the south of Gran Canaria. The incident occurred at 12:35pm at the beach in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, according to the Canary Islands emergency services (1-1-2).
Red Cross lifeguards pulled the woman from the water after noticing signs of drowning. The team immediately alerted 1-1-2, as the woman was in cardiac arrest, and emergency resources were sent to the beach to assist.
Upon arrival, paramedics continued the cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) efforts initiated by the Red Cross team. Unfortunately, despite their best efforts, the woman could not be revived, and they certified her death at the beach.
The National Police has launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
