A four-year-old girl is in a very critical condition after suffering a near-drowning in a swimming pool in the Lago Taurito water park, in the municipality of Mogán, Gran Canaria, according to the Canary Islands Emergency Services (CECOES).

The alert was raised at 1:15pm yesterday afternoon (Monday), reporting that the child had been pulled from the water in cardiorespiratory arrest. Lifeguards immediately began resuscitation efforts while emergency teams were deployed.

Upon arrival, SUC medical staff found the girl showing signs of partial drowning and a serious head injury. After being stabilised, she was airlifted to the helipad at Hospital Universitario de Gran Canaria Doctor Negrín, before being transferred by a waiting ambulance to the Materno Infantil Children’s Hospital in Las Palmas for urgent treatment.

Second incident within the same water park in eight months

This incident comes just months after a tragic drowning at the same aquatic leisure complex. In April, a two-year-old girl died after becoming trapped beneath inflatables in a pool. Despite rapid intervention and resuscitation attempts from emergency teams, her death was confirmed at the scene.

Authorities are urging extreme vigilance around swimming pools and water attractions, particularly when young children are involved, as investigations continue into Monday’s incident.
