30-year-old man dies by drowning at a Playa Pirata beach

A 30-year-old man died this morning (Monday), after drowning off Pirata Beach in the south of Gran Canaria as reported by the Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES).

The incident occurred at 11:25am at the aforementioned beach in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, when the man was pulled from the water in a state of cardiac arrest.

Emergency responders performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) manoeuvres on the victim, which had initially been initiated by Red Cross personnel who rescued him, but their efforts proved unsuccessful and they could only confirm his death.

The National Police took custody of the body until the arrival of judicial authorities, who conducted the necessary procedures so it could be taken for autopsy.
