An earthquake measuring 2.3 on the Richter scale was recorded on Saturday near La Orotava, in the north of Tenerife, according to the National Geographic Institute (IGN).
The tremor occurred at 12:14pm local time and was detected at a depth of around 17 kilometres beneath the surface.
So far, there are no reports of the earthquake being felt by residents, and no damage has been reported.
Ongoing seismic activity near Teide
The latest tremor comes as seismic activity continues in the area around Teide National Park.
Before the weekend, monitoring stations detected dozens of small earthquakes in the western area of Las Cañadas, within the national park.
According to the IGN, 65 minor tremors with magnitudes below 1.6 were recorded between the early hours of Thursday and early Friday morning. These events appeared in pulses of long-period seismic signals and hybrid events, which are commonly linked to volcanic systems.
The strongest seismic pulses during that period were recorded at 1:48am and 5:40am on Friday.
Scientists continue to closely monitor seismic activity around Mount Teide, although such small tremors are not unusual in volcanic areas like the Canary Islands.
