Canary Islands airports record 4.5 million passengers in April, up 9% from 2024

Airports across the Canary Islands handled 4,589,804 passengers in April 2025, representing a 9% increase compared to the same month in 2024, according to figures released by Aena, Spain’s airport operator.

Of the total passenger count, 4,568,281 travelled on commercial flights. Domestic flights accounted for 1,853,878 passengers, an 8.5% year-on-year rise, while international flights carried 2,714,403 passengers, a 9.7% increase.

40,330 flight operations in and out of the islands were recorded during the month, 5.8% more than in April 2024. However, cargo transport dropped, with 2,654 tonnes moved, a decrease of 11.4% year-on-year.

Gran Canaria Airport leads with over 1.3 million passengers

Gran Canaria Airport recorded the highest number of passengers among the islands, with 1,348,463 travellers in April, a 12.3% increase from the same month last year.

Other key figures include:

  • Tenerife South Airport: 1,157,851 passengers (+5.4%)
  • Lanzarote Airport: 745,331 passengers (+5.2%)
  • Tenerife North Airport: 592,481 passengers (+9.6%)
  • Fuerteventura Airport: 580,937 passengers (+14.2%)
  • La Palma Airport: 129,102 passengers (+9.4%)

Strong growth in first four months of the year

From January to April 2025, Canary Islands airports registered 18,733,561 passengers arriving to and leaving the islands, up 4.9% compared to the same period in 2024. Of those, 6,786,201 travelled on domestic flights (+4.5%) and 11,834,664 on international routes (+5.4%).

During this four-month period, 164,450 flights were managed (+5.6%), while 10,560 tonnes of cargo were transported, representing a 3.8% decrease.

The timing of Easter, which fell in April this year compared to March in 2024, likely contributed to the increased passenger numbers.
