A swimmer was found dead this afternoon, Wednesday, in the natural pools of Punta del Hidalgo, located in La Laguna, Tenerife, as reported by the Canary Islands Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES).
The incident occurred around 2:00pm this afternoon when emergency services received a 112 distress call, alerting them that a man had been pulled from the water, unconscious and floating face down in the water.
Upon arrival, medical personnel determined that the man was in cardiac arrest. They immediately started basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) procedures and deployed a semi-automatic defibrillator (DESA), administering several electric shocks in an attempt to revive him.
Despite their continued efforts they couldn’t revive the man who was pronounced dead at the scene. Local police are now handling the necessary legal proceedings and have opened an investigation into the cause of the tragic incident.
This tragic event emphasises the importance of caution when swimming, even in seemingly safe areas like natural pools.
