Sanchez will continue as Prime Minister "with even greater strength"

The Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, has announced in an institutional statement from the Moncloa Palace that he will continue leading the country. "I have decided to continue," he announced, while also stating that this decision marks "a turning point" and called on the social majority to mobilise.

The announcement by the President of the Government comes five days after he published an online letter stating he was taking time off to decide on his future as head of the Government.

"I have decided to continue, and to continue with even greater strength at the helm of the Presidency. This decision does not mean a continuation, it is a new start, I assure you," he said. "That is why I give my full commitment to work tirelessly, with firmness and serenity for the pending regeneration of our democracy," he added.

Sánchez thanked the wave of support he received in the last few days since he announced his time off, especially from members of the PSOE who "decisively influenced" his decision.

Furthermore, he called for "the social majority to mobilise in a decisive commitment to dignity and common sense, putting a stop to the politics of shame that we have been suffering for too long."

"We must decide what kind of society we want to be, and I believe that our country needs to make this collective reflection. In fact, during these five days, we have already begun to do so. A collective reflection that paves the way for cleanliness, regeneration, and fair play."
